THE Prosecutor General Justice Loyce Matanda-Moyo has said International Worker’s Day serves as a reminder of the indispensable role that workers play in building a prosperous and equitable society.
In a statement to mark International Workers Day, Justice Matanda-Moyo said she acknowledges the vital contributions of all the members in the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ). Workers Day is celebrated on May 1 annually.
“Their unwavering dedication forms the backbone of our society and drives the criminal justice delivery system. From those who clean the offices, deliver mail and dockets, to those who answer the telephones and those who are responsible for the NPAZ’s administration and finances; and of course to the Prosecutors who drive our constitutional mandate. You are the lifeblood of our criminal justice delivery system. You are the key to a just, secure and peaceful society by 2030,”said Justice Matanda-Moyo.
She said her office and the NPAZ Board stand firmly in defence of workers’ rights.
“Under my watch, the NPAZ will uphold the laws that ensure decent conditions of service, a safe working environment and protection against all forms of discrimination or exploitation. Of note, we understand that these are not simply legal requirements; they are fundamental principles that promote human dignity,” said Jurice Matanda-Moyo.
She said International Workers Day compels her office to look beyond individual cases towards addressing the root causes of labour injustice.
“We must foster a culture where respect for workers is woven into the fabric of our operations. This means supporting the work of labour unions, investing in human capital development, providing tools of trade and ensuring that we prioritize our workers’ well-being alongside results,” said Justice Matanda-Moyo.
“Let us honour the spirit of International Worker’s Day by recommitting ourselves to a future where every worker’s contributions are valued, their rights are protected, and their aspirations are supported.”
