Working hard and working smart

Itai Chipunza

PEOPLE are designed by God to worship. It is in our nature. The lives we live are an act of worship. If you do not worship God, you will worship other things. Sometimes we worship things without even noticing that we are worshipping them. Others worship food, others its alcohol. Some are gym worshippers some even go as far as worshipping themselves. God calls us to worship him in all things we do.

Colossians 3:23-24

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

One of the ways we worship God is by being hardworking in our individual fields of influence. God is pleased when he sees you rise to the top of your field and become a point of reference for everyone else planning to do it. John D Rockefeller did it in the oil business during his time and today we look proudly at him as a Christian businessman that changed the way the world perceives oil. Dedicate yourself to living a life of worship to God by your actions.

I have always been a strong believer that whatever you give yourself to, it gives itself to you. I took this from the book of Luke.

Luke 6:38-39

38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

The hours you spend at something, will make you better at it. A child that spend hours studying, becomes better at whatever they are studying. Hard work beats talent if talent does not work hard. This means a good musician who never practices cannot be better than an average musician that practises all the time. Skill is sharpened as you continue to put in hours at a particular trade. If you spend a lot of time doing the right things in your business, it will pay you back because the business will grow, you will become a better businessperson. To show you how valuable experience is, when you make job applications, there is always a part that requires experience. This directly stands for hours spent in the trade. Spend time at your trade, it is the beginning of building a legacy that will last generations to come, you are a child of God, whatever you do, people associate it with your father in Heaven. By doing outstanding work in your field, you represent him well.

Invest well in your future, remember that even though you do not live forever, it is not the Christian way to consume everything you get.

Proverbs 13:22

22 A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.

The work that we go to everyday our children will not inherit. So invest in something that your children will inherit. The best your children will get out of your work is food and school. But that is not enough. There must be income generating assets that they inherit from you. This way you do not perpetuate poverty in children. But you set them up for success in the future. Buy properties, buy companies, buy land. Make sure your children inherit something from you. If they don’t, you will have to explain to God why they did not inherit anything from you as soon as you get to Heaven.

1 Timothy 5:8

If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

The Bible says a man that does not provide for his family is worse than an unbeliever because even unbelievers provide for their own. So in a sense God is saying a believer should do better. Don’t just work hard, work smart. Always give yourself time to think and plan on how and what you will invest for you5r future and the future of your children.

God loves you and awaits the day you will walk in what he has created you for. Be blessed.
