A WORKSHOP for artistes aimed at equipping them with knowledge in arranging for fundraising drives, carter for programme development as well as facilitating for educational thrust amongst creatives, is set to be held on 22 January at Siziba Youth Centre in Njube suburb.
The workshop is organised by seasoned all-rounder artiste Mehluli “Gomez” Dube who is the founder and director of ProGomezDuction.
The event extends an open invitation to dancers, musicians, poets, actors/actresses, and models.
A number of facilitators will be present at the workshop including award-winning artiste Fish F Ndaramu who will be sharing his experience on all the collaborations he has been involved in and how artistes can benefit from collaborative efforts.
Philemon “Dr Phil” Nyirenda from Youth Network Connect will be tackling issues on planning an artistic project, branding, as well as marketing.
Award-winning B-Metro showbiz reporter Langalakhe Mabena will facilitate the power of collaborations amongst artistes, social media brand visibility, and its importance to artistes as well as public relations.
Gomez, a renowned choreographer and actor who was crowned Best Dancer in 2016 at the National Arts Merit Awards for Best Dancer said he envisions the workshop as a catalyst for creating a unified force within the city’s creative space.
He also said he believes the workshop will set the artistic tone for creatives in and around Bulawayo, as the discussions will help them gear up for their work in 2024.
“The workshop is all about being collaborative. It seeks to harness the power of working as one. Bulawayo is the most talented city in the region, and it has immense potential if creatives can set aside their egos and eliminate competition among themselves.
“We aim to encourage groups and artistes to collaborate for the growth of our sector and as individuals. Collaborations are impactful, contributing significantly to producing quality content and sharing followers among each other.
“It is critical for creatives to attend this workshop at the early stage of the year as we are trying to approach the year with a different strategy. We believe that being collaborative will change the game in many ways.
“Our goal is to change the culture of merely featuring in a project to being an integral part of it through collaborations. If artistes start believing in each other respectfully, we will conquer this world. I’ve seen many successful artistes taking that same route,” said Gomez.
