World: Covid 19 death surpasses the 3 million mark

A total of 3 480 480 people globally have succumbed to Covid -19 since the start of the pandemic in December 2019, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said.

The world has recorded 167 423 479 cumulative cases and 3 480 480 deaths as at May 26.

According to Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the continent recorded 4 777 300 confirmed cases, 129 069 deaths and 4 327 074 recoveries as at May 25.

Southern Africa continue to dominate the continent regional list with 2 049 156 confirmed cases, 64 142 deaths and 1 924 029 cases.

Eswatini has the lowest COVID -19 cases as it has recorded 18 570 cumulative cases, 672 deaths and 17 854 recoveries since the start of the pandemic, Africa CDC said.

According to WHO, as at May 24, a total of 1 489 727 128 people have been vaccinated globally against COVID-19.
