Top local gospel acts have been billed to perform at this year’s “Worship Lounge” to be held in Scotland next month.
The event which will be hosted by gospel songstress Minister Rumbidzai Munyuni at Central Hall, Edinburgh, Scotland will see musicians such as Takesure Zamar, Minister Micheal Mahendere, Kuda Mutsvene, Ellard and Sharon Cherayi, and Sir Benjamin Rupapa sharing the stage.
In an interview with Minister Rumbie, as she is affectionately known in gospel circles, she said preparations for the “Worship Lounge” are at an advanced stage with artistes confirming their participation.
“We are delighted to be hosting some of Zimbabwean top gospel giants in Scotland. We have done a poll on who to bring at this year’s edition and we are happy that we are giving fans the value of their money. We are on course with the plans and already rehearsals are taking place,” she said. Minister Rumbie said the concept of hosting “Worship Lounge” came after a “thirsty period” for gospel shows in Scotland for Zimbabweans.
“We have seen a lot of gospel shows only held in United Kingdom towns and cities and none in Scotland hence gospel fans have to travel to attend such shows,” she said.
“We want to have these frequent shows and planning also to expose the Zimbabwean talents in here. There is a lot of untamed talent here and we are working with some of the gospel artistes here to continue promoting Zimbabwean music culture,” she said.
The songstress said the event will coincide with a live DVD recording which will be released before Christmas as part of a festive season gift.
Commenting on her musical journey, Minister Rumbie, said it is about celebrating the self-discovery of women and finding their true worth and value.
Last year she staged a successful Worship Lounge concert in Scotland, which attracted over 500 people, a number she never thought of.
Minister Rumbie said besides music she loves to empower young women and give them hope.
“I love singing and it started at a tender age while in high school, I started liking writing music and poetry, essentially anything that allowed me to use my creativity,” she said.
