Worshipper killed at church

A PRAYER session in Beitbridge ended in tragedy on Sunday when a 22-year-old woman was fatally struck by a corrugated iron sheet after the roof of a make-shift structure used by Revelation House church collapsed in strong winds.

The church’s temporary structure collapsed at around 3PM during prayers near Mashakada Business Centre in Dulibadzimu suburb.

Matabeleland South police spokesman Inspector Philisani Ndebele said: “Indications are that the now deceased was part of people who were inside a structure made of corrugated iron sheets. There were strong winds which blew away the building resulting in her being struck by some objects and she collapsed.”

He said the woman was rushed to Beitbridge district hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Insp Ndebele urged people to make use of well-built structures to avoid unnecessarily putting their lives in danger.

“Now that we’re in the rainy season, people should avoid some of these tendencies which put their lives at risk,” he said.

The incident comes a few years after another man from Dulibadzimu suburb was killed when a huge branch fell on him while taking a siesta under a baobab near the same church.
