WUA launches digital library

E-Granary is a collection of over 10 million multimedia educational documents meant to deliver educational documents in the form of e-books, e-journals, audio, video, portal and essays. The E-Granary delivers educational Web content using local area networks making documents available instantly to everyone in the institution.
WUA Vice Chancellor Professor Hope Sadza said that the digital library has greatly improved their library collection.
“Women’s University is proud to announce that our library collection all-inclusive has just jumped from 5 600 to 14 012 000 and actually puts us at par with developed country standards”, she said.
She said universities and colleges of education in the country have suffered a severe setback in terms of knowledge acquisition in the past five years due to the downturn in the Zimbabwean economy.
Professor Sadza said that students would benefit through the network using their own laptops without going to the library.
“In a bid to hunt for accessible knowledge, WUA made a conscious decision to develop the digital library which is much cheaper than the traditional book” she said.
E-Granary can be used in the absence of the Internet and it is used for educational purposes only. Other universities in the country could benefit from the programme through the National Research Education Network. The project was sponsored by the African Capacity Building Foundation.
