Xabi Alonso could be sacked by Real Madrid

REAL MADRID’S under-fire manager Xabi Alonso is facing the sack unless results and performances immediately improve.

Real‘s troubles continued under Alonso, 44, on Sunday when they drew 1-1 at Girona in the Spanish LaLiga football.

Los Blancos have now drawn all of their last three league matches following their visits at Rayo Vallecano and Elche.

Madrid did beat Olympiacos 4-3 this past Wednesday in the Champions League but it saw them spending the last 10 minutes of the match desperately defending a fragile lead in Greece.

According to The Athletic, pressure is mounting for Alonso after the poor run of results, with Real’s most recent league victory all the way back on November 1 in a 4-0 thrashing of Valencia at Santiago Bernabeu.

Club sources have described the ongoing situation as “very difficult” because the team is playing “very badly”.

Others described this last weekend’s result and performance against a relegation struggler as “a disaster”.

The same sources insist Real’s next matches will be crucial as club chiefs demand better results and more convincing performances.

Madrid made a flying start to LaLiga under Alonso with 10 wins from their first 11 games.

But even then there were rumblings of player discontent, with Vinicius Jr especially unhappy at being left on the bench or subbed off to defend leads.

And it is claimed that multiple members of the Bernabeu squad are unhappy with Alonso’s tactics and philosophy, which often don’t afford them the freedom they are accustomed too.

Alonso has struggled to balance the team with Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius and Jude Bellingham all playing together.

According to Spanish radio show El Partidazo de COPE, as many as six players are believed to be “unhappy” with Alonso’s management.

The reported “anti-Xabi” group includes Fede Valverde, Vinicius, Rodrygo, Brahim Diaz, Endrick and Ferland Mendy.

One of the biggest reported flashpoints is between Alonso and Vinicius Jr, with Spanish outlets claiming the pair have “fallen out badly”.

Alonso has left Vinicius out of his startling XI four times this season this season.

And the Brazil star has only played the full 90 minutes in four games.

Some reports even suggest Vini is refusing to sign a new deal until the situation is resolved, a nightmare scenario for the club’s hierarchy.

Real are second in LaLiga with only one point separating them from leaders Barcelona. – thesun.co.uk
