ACTRESS and singer, Memory ‘Yaya Saru’ Chinamasa, has dropped an emotional love song, Ndokumirira (I Miss You), ahead of Valentine’s Day this week.
Popularly known as a comedian-par-excellence, the 41-year-old is becoming an established actress and musician.
Yaya Saru calls her music Zimbabwe Muzik, which is a fusion of traditional and contemporary instruments with a deep Manyika accent.
She revealed the inspiration behind the song.
“Being separated from someone you love and holding on to hope.
“It reflects the quiet moments of waiting, remembering, and believing that love can survive time and space.
“It’s a shared story for many people who miss someone special in their lives.
“The song was recorded under the Zimbarock Music production space, and it was produced by 6ixbeats, who, together with our executive producer, has been instrumental in shaping the sound and emotion behind this release,” she said.
According to Yaya Saru, the song speaks about longing and emotional connection.
“It tells the story of someone who is physically apart from the person they love but remains emotionally present.
“It’s about patience, memories, and the quiet strength that comes from holding on while waiting to be reunited.
“Ndokumirira is more intimate and emotionally centred.
“Compared to earlier songs, it leans deeper into storytelling and feeling, with a softer and more reflective delivery.
“The production is also more refined, blending global Afrofusion elements with a warm, organic Zimbabwean story to let the emotion lead,” she said. The Ruwa based artist added:
“It captures the core message of the song, waiting, missing, and holding on to love despite distance.
“The lyrics are built around that idea, expressing both the pain of separation and the hope that comes with love that refuses to fade.
“We are currently planning live performances and intimate studio-style sessions where fans will get to experience the song in a more personal way.
“Details will be shared soon through our official platforms.”
Producer of the song, Moses ‘Mukanya’ Manduwa, has a long-term vision for Yaya Saru.
“Ndokumirira is part of our long-term vision to bridge the old and the new in terms of sound.
“From a production perspective, the track is a Zimbabwean story delivered using global production language,” he said.
The Music Business, Musicology and Technology Degree holder feels grateful for her journey in the music industry.
Her musical journey started around 2011, when she would perform with various groups and sometimes as a solo artist at various entertainment joints in Mutare.
In 2012, she released her debut single, ‘Umtimawako’. Yaya Saru composed another single, ‘Maputseni’, which was produced by Clive ‘Mono’ Mukundu, before she collaborated with Jah Prayzah on the song, ‘Chengetedza Hupenyu.’
She went on to record a love song, ‘Ndinokusuwa’, before releasing another song, ‘Baya’.
She, however, won the hearts of many and became popular after releasing a plug track, ‘Jongwe Rangu’, in 2021.
