Yolanda Mubaiwa wins in Norton

YOLANDER Mubaiwa was crowned the 2017 Mashonaland East West Ladies Strokeplay 2017 Golf Champion after grossing 160 points in a taxing two rounds at Norton Country Club at the weekend.

ZLGU’s first provincial tournament on the 2017 calendar saw women from different provinces converging to this beautiful Country Club for the battle.

Mubaiwa, who was blessed with a baby recently, had played golf right through her pregnancy.

“I am thrilled to be back on the podium, my thanks go to my playing three-ball and their encouragement and support and a big thank you to ZLGU for a job well done,” said Mubaiwa. She walked away with a trophy, holiday prize and other prizes for winning the tournament.

Zimbabwe Junior Sports-person of the Year for 2016, Danielle Bekker, finished second with a gross score of 162 with Batsirai Tilowakuti coming third with a gross score of 164.

Veteran Maggie Vera scooped the A Division Trophy with a gross score of 193 with Loveness Chandavengerwa coming closely second with a score of 198.

Connie Mashiri won the B Division by four points, shooting a score of 197, with Makumbe coming as the runner-up with a gross score of 201.

D. Fero, a 33-handicap junior from Hippo Country Club in Chiredzi, lifted the C Dvision Trophy with a score of 209 with C. Masawi scoring 237. ZLGU president Caroline Mtsambiwa commended the players.
