SOME Winky D fans are joking that the Zimdancehall heavyweight’s latest album needs “someone with five O-Levels” to understand, and appreciate, the music.
Winky D has surprised his legion of fans with a new 16-track album, “Tête â Tête (Hello Africa).”
His fans are going wild on social media suggesting that the 16-track album feels deeper than ‘Gombwe’ and more enlightening than ‘Eureka Eureka’. Winky D announced the new project at his sold-out Tête â Tête Season 2 show at Alex Sports Club on Saturday.
The surprise release has sent his fans, popularly known as “maGafa” into a frenzy on social media.
Many are describing the project as a deeper and more thought-provoking body of work than his previous albums ‘Gombwe’ and ‘Eureka Eureka’.
Fans have been dissecting the album’s titles and themes, with some joking that the project is one maGafa can proudly claim “needs five O-Levels” to understand.
For many, the titles alone suggest that the album is not a casual listen but one that demands attention, interpretation and perhaps a little homework.
The reaction reflects the long-standing relationship between Winky D and his fan base who have embraced his music for its social commentary symbolism and philosophical themes.
Following the show, Winky D expressed gratitude to his fans for their continued support and for defending the purpose behind his music.
“To all the Gafas who came through for Tete-a-Tete Season 2, I offer my deepest gratitude.
“The concert could have lasted for just one night, but the faith that brought you to attend this event was built over more than two decades, in which you have stood by my works as both listeners and believers in a musical mission shaped by truth, consciousness and purpose,” he wrote.
He said the longevity of his music had been made possible by fans who have carried his work in their hearts and connected their own experiences to his music. “The distance and time my music has travelled, has been possible simply because you have carried it in your hearts, defended its purpose and related your own stories within it,” he said.
He thanked fans for embracing the evolution of his sound and continuing to believe in the mission behind his music before signing off with the album announcement.
“The journey continues, enjoy the new project roll out. Tête â Tête (Hello Africa),” he said.
