In our modern society, art is a universal way for people to express themselves and share their feelings with the world.
Art is an important avenue through which to communicate with others in both good and times of crisis.
The Herald on Saturday Lifestyle, Youth Interaction caught up with Shingirai Greg Butau-Mocho, a young talented artist from Mufakose aged 23 who specializes in charcoal drawing, painting and animates creation.
For him art did not start as a dream but rather a result of inspiration and motivation from the works of his elder brothers who were seriously passionate about art in general.
“Seeing artistic works of my brothers made myself to develop interest in drawings and paintings,” Butau said.
Shingirai Greg started taking art serious when he was in high school.
For him art is a platform for people to express themselves and live out their dreams.
“Art allows one to express his or her feelings, emotions and thoughts in ways that are not always possible in words or actions. It helps one to better understand how people feel about certain things in a society,” he said.
Butau-Mocho has worked with quite a number of popular Zimbabwean poetry writers and novelists including Dr Ignitious Mabasa, Rutendo Victoria Makumbe among others.
Shingirai Greg, further highlighted that working with a number of novelists and poetics has given him the opportunity to showcase his talent to many.
“Art is important in our cultural and social lives because it is the medium through which people process emotions and ideas. It is also a reflection of society and culture.
“It helps the masses to understand what we are as human being and influence how we relate to each other.
“Drawings and paintings are an expression of creativity that can be used for self reflection,” Butau-Mocho said.
The young talented artist has faced quite a number of challenges in the industry but have not yet given up on his aim goal of becoming an animator.
“The importance of art should not be underestimated because if you take away imagination and creativity, life would be boring and colourless.
Hence all forms of art are ways of expressing people’s emotions, ideas and identities at large,” he further added.
