Young Igwe to rock Masvingo

The son of the veteran musician Tongai, Peter is arguably one of the most promising music stars and it is a matter of time before he competes for the top spot with other gurus in the industry.
Though Utakataka members, Shiga Shiga and Spencer Kumbulani, the talented bassist, have jumped ship, the young artiste continues to shine.
The two former long serving Utakataka members crossed the floor to join the Harare-based business mogul-cum-musician Energy Mutodi.
Peter’s maiden appearance in Masvingo last year left an indelible mark as he churned his late father’s hits with much ease. From the time the “Wezhira” fans last saw him in action, the Young Igwe has been on a learning curve and the night presents him with another chance to prove that he is the right man for the job.
Ritz Regency Entertainment manager Roy Gonese said it will be entertainment galore this year as management had lined up a number of polished musical groups to perform at the popular leisure spot.
“Our entertainment calendar this year will feature much sought-after artistes and we have decided to begin with the fast improving and talented Young Igwe. I think fans will get a rare opportunity to watch him in action for the second time,” said Gonese.
He said: “We are going to host big artistes like Sulumani Chimbetu, Nicholas Zakaria, Alick Macheso, to name just a few.”
The entertainment manager said although they played second fiddle to other entertainment spots in attracting renowned artistes last year, they never starved their customers with entertainment, as they also brought artistes worth their salt.
Of late the leisure spot has become a favourite hunting ground for the female dancing sensation Girlz La Musica, musicians Progress Chipfumo and other Harare-based urban groovers, to name but a few.
