Coming from yet another sold out show in Bulawayo last week, the Young Igwe, as Moyo is fondly known, was in buoyant mood churning out his late father’s hits much to the delight of the packed watering hole.
If his performance is anything to go by then the young man who has managed to keep the band intact, will soon join the list of music legends. His father’s legacy seems to be living on and the late Tongai Moyo’s followers can take solace in the fact that he has fitted well into his father’s shoes. The voice, the dancing and his overall appearance on stage reminds fans of the late Murozvi Mukuru.
Fans chanted Young Igwe and danced the night away as the young man dished a delicious meal that was also spiced by his new numbers.
The Young Igwe’s improved guitar playing skills endeared him to his fans and many said they had no reason to doubt that he was a rising star. He now plays the rhythm guitar with much ease and has also perfected the art of singing and it is just a matter of time before the fans get his first project.
“I have been perfecting my voice and I am content with the voice training sessions that I was doing. The fans should now expect my own album anytime soon. I thank my band members for being supportive, my fans deserve great mention because they keep encouraging me,” said Moyo in an interview after the show.
Of note, the chanter who replaced the nomadic Shiga Shiga was missing and the manager Sukulube Dube said the dancer-cum chanter was suspended over issues of discipline.
“We sometimes have to reign on these youngsters because they may be easily carried away. Discipline should remain the cornerstone of Utakataka’s success and we would whip into line any member who is undisciplined. I can confirm that Lua Lua is still suspended but very soon, we would lift the suspension, he is still in our plans. There are just a few issues that we have to discuss before calling him back,” said Dube.
