BELOVED Biza produced another fine all-round performance as Zimbabwe Under-19 Women crushed Kenya by 79 runs yesterday to strengthen their push for a semi-final place at the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Dar es Salaam.

After taking four wickets in Zimbabwe’s opening victory over Rwanda, Biza top-scored with 40 before returning figures of 2-1 as Kenya were bowled out for just 49 in 15.1 overs at the TCA Cricket Arena, University of Dar es Salaam.

Zimbabwe had earlier posted 128 for seven from their allotted 20 overs.

The victory followed their 51-run win over Rwanda on Sunday and leaves the Young Chevrons strongly placed in Group B with one match remaining.

Only the tournament winners will secure Africa’s ticket to the 2027 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh and Nepal.

Biza struck five fours in her 38-ball innings and provided stability after captain Lorraine Pemhiwa was dismissed for 17 from 19 deliveries.

Pemhiwa hit three fours before falling to Janet Makau, while Naomi Mhlekwa was unbeaten on 17 from 22 balls.

Nicolette Nyika made seven, Makanaka Zinyama four, Salem Museka nine and Christina Mutasa five, before Sharmaine Manyukwi chipped in with 11 from nine balls.

Zimbabwe also benefited from 18 extras, including 15 wides.

The total proved more than enough once the bowlers took control.

Tadiwanashe Garutsa led the attack with three wickets for nine runs from her four overs, while Biza added another two wickets to her impressive tournament haul.

Tawananyasha Zvomarima also picked up two wickets for seven runs from three overs and bowled a maiden as Kenya struggled to build any meaningful partnerships.

The result was even more impressive considering Kenya had opened their campaign with a 54-run victory over Namibia.

Zimbabwe, meanwhile, have now followed up their opening win over Rwanda with an even bigger victory.

Against Rwanda, Pemhiwa struck 70 before Biza claimed 4-14 and Garutsa 3-12 in a 51-run triumph.

Zimbabwe face Namibia tomorrow in their final Group B match, while Kenya take on Rwanda.

The top two sides from each group advance to the semi-finals, with the final scheduled for September 5.
