Young Women for ED empowers Thekwane High girl students

Mthabisi Tshuma at Thekwane, Bulilima

YOUNG Women for Economic Development (YW4ED) last Friday left smiles on the faces of Thekwane High School girls after donating sanitary wear and stationery to the school.

The organisation donated 345 sanitary pads, 350 textbooks to the school’s library and 20 scientific calculators to A level and O Level science students.

The donation came as the school celebrated 100 years of existence where it has excelled and churned out prominent names in law, politics and other spheres.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, guest of honour, Deputy Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services and Member of Parliament for Bulilima Constituency Cde Dingumuzi Phuti said the learners should strive to be exemplary and concentrate on their school work.

He said the donation comes also as the school had its computer laboratory renovated and equipped with new laptops.

“Your school computer laboratory is being refurbished and the President His Excellency Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is going to present to you brand new laptops which you must utilise to do your school work research as there shall be high-speed internet connectivity.

“I urge you girls to shun dangerous substances and drugs as this may not only lead to school expulsion but to a very risky and shameful life. As a girl child, you have a lot to live for and should dream to be at the top. The President’s cabinet has a good number of women Ministers. This is a sign that His Excellency trusts you as women, hence I thank the President for recognising our women. I implore you therefore girls that you work hard and be good leaders of tomorrow,” said Cde Phuti.

YW4ED national programmes coordinator Cde Sithabile Gandi-Ndlovu said the donation speaks true to their vision of seeing empowered women.

“Through our leader ICT Minister Dr Tatenda Mavetera we are here to donate sanitary wear to you young girls as we want to end period poverty.

“Not only do we want to uplift your social life but the donation of books and scientific calculators is a measure from us to want to develop you academically so you can be future leaders and improve in your literature and STEM subjects,” said Cde Gandi-Ndlovu.

Also in attendance was the Zanu PF War Veterans League National Political Commissar Cde Ntombiyakhe Ndlovu who also implored the girls to dream big and be focused on their school work.
