Youth Empowerment Takes Centre Stage at Business Forum

The Zimbabwe Youth Council Chairperson, Ms Rutendo Mugwagwa has called on young people to take a leading role in driving economic transformation through entrepreneurship, innovation and skills development.

Speaking during the Youth in Business Forum 2026 at Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), Ms Mugwagwa emphasised the critical role of youth participation in shaping Zimbabwe’s economic future.

The forum which brings together young entrepreneurs, policy makers and industry leaders serves as a platform to inspire and equip youths with practical tools for business growth.

Ms Mugwagwa highlighted the importance of training and skills development noting that empowering young people with relevant competencies is key to unlocking opportunities in various sectors.

She encouraged youths to identify gaps in the market and turn ideas into sustainable enterprises that contribute to national development.

“Young people are not just participants in the economy, they are drivers of innovation and change,” she said.

“We must build enterprises that create wealth, generate employment and uplift communities.”

She further underscored the need for collaboration urging stakeholders to create an enabling environment that supports youth-led initiatives.

Ms Mugwagwa pointed out that access to resources, mentorship and funding remains crucial in nurturing emerging businesses.

The Chairperson called for boldness and resilience among young entrepreneurs, stressing that success requires determination and adaptability in an ever-changing economic landscape.

The Youth in Business Forum forms part of ongoing efforts to mainstream youth participation in economic activities aligning with broader national and continental development goals.
