Youth entrepreneur of the Week

Mr Ryan Katayi (pictured) is the co-founder and CEO of Farmhut, a Zimbabwean agriculture start-up that creates linkages between farmers with excess produce and the market.

Mr Katayi grew up on a farm in Nyazura and worked to put himself through engineering school.

He started Farmhut in 2018, with the aim to serve as a hub, connecting farmers with markets and other information to help them succeed.

Farmhut reaches out to growers and producers across the country to educate them on practices, policies and laws that affect their ability to do business.

In 2021, the start-up received seed capital of US$100 000 from global business incubation organisation, Hult Prize Foundation. To get the money, Farmhut had to go through training and refining of its business models.

Since its establishment, Farmhut has won a number of innovation competitions both regionally and locally.
