A senior Zanu-PF youth member has reportedly skipped the country fearing possible arrest after the change in leadership within the ruling party.
The Manicaland Provincial secretary general, popularly known among his peers as Masendeke is said to have been among a group of party members that had been targeted for arrest in the role they played in backing the now toppled former President Robert Mugabe.
Masendeke’s pending arrest follows the incarceration of a number of the party’s leadership inclusive of their former national leader, Kudzai Chipanga who at one point declared he was prepared to die for former President Robert Mugabe.
He has in the past couple of months also be the leading figure in Manicaland, fighting in the corner of the former President, openly declaring that he will not support President Mnangagwa arguing that he was wrongly at the helm of the throne.
Sources claim Masendeke, whose real name is Lloyd Simba Takana went into hiding a couple of weeks ago, informing his relatives and colleagues that he was the target of security forces who wanted to pick him for questioning on charges involving opposing the rise of President Mnangagwa.
“He called me last week saying security officials came to his place of residence looking for him. He claimed he had to go to his rural areas to lay low for a bit.
“That was the last I had of him until you called me suggesting he had left the country, of which I would not be surprised because when I spoke to him he really sounded scared,” said a friend who preferred anonymity.
Early this year, he was also part of a group of Zanu-PF activists who were assaulted by alleged party members when the party’s Manicval provincial offices were torched down.
He was admitted in hospital for a week after the attack.
The activist also made a police report that he was constantly being followed by unmarked cars.
