THE Zanu-PF National Youth League has denounced Western-imposed economic sanctions, describing them as a logjam, and a crippling obstacle that stifles the country’s full potential for economic boom.
In a statement yesterday, the league’s secretary for legal affairs, Cde Phineas Makombe, said while the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa has made huge strides in busting sanctions, the embargo must be lifted unconditionally.
He said sanction-busting mechanisms have positioned Zimbabwe as a regional economic trailblazer but more could be achieved without sanctions.
The scourge of sanctions continues to undermine Zimbabwe’s sovereignty, erode the integrity of its people and threaten the very fabric of free trade.
“We commend His Excellency, the President (Mnangagwa) and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, for his innovative sanctions-busting mechanisms,” he said.
Cde Makombe said while Western powers seek to stifle Zimbabwe’s international trade, Cde Mnangagwa has encouraged local investment by creating an enabling environment.
“Despite the challenges posed by sanctions, which hinder access to essential goods and impede our ability to sell products, our President has paved the way for resilience and growth,” he said.
Cde Makombe highlighted that economic sanctions are a threat to Zimbabwe’s economic growth and called upon every Zimbabwean and the region to stand firm against sanctions.
“We reject those who stand against their own people by supporting these oppressive sanctions. Everyone must join hands in fighting against these unjustified economic sanctions,” he said.
Cde Makombe said Zimbabwe joins hands with other SADC member states to demand an end to the illegal economic sanctions that have affected and continue to undermine the country’s economy.
“These sanctions are an affront to our sovereignty and territorial integrity, lacking any basis or justification,” he said.
Cde Makombe said Zimbabwe’s democratically elected Government, under President Mnangagwa, has made significant strides in creating an environment where every Zimbabwean can thrive, irrespective of colour, creed, religion, race, or political affiliation.
“Initiatives like the Global Compensation Deed reflect our Government’s commitment to being a ‘friend to all and enemy to none’ and the recently launched Land Tenure Act further ensures property security, positioning Zimbabwe as a safe destination for international investment,” he said.
