THE Zanu-PF Bulawayo Youth Entrepreneurs Initiative yesterday donated 260 food hampers and 250 T-shirts to patients at Mpilo Central Hospital’s paediatric unit.
Each patient, aged between three years and 12 years, received a T-shirt and a hamper containing a 500ml of soft drink, an apple, a banana and a bunch of grapes.
The Zanu-PF Youth Entrepreneurs Initiative was formed by the ruling party’s youths last month in Bulawayo to help the less privileged and vulnerable members of society. Its president Cde Butholezwe Ndlovu said youths must unite and work together in order to give back to the community.
“We decided to give to the less privileged and we thought of donating to the children that are admitted to this hospital. I also wish all the patients a speedy recovery. I also encourage the youths to work together and bring more change in our community. If you can’t donate then pray for the patients,” said Cde Ndlovu.
The organisation’s vice president Cde Gift Muhomba said they were also donating medicine and money for patients who are supposed to go for a scan. “We adopted this from our mother Dr Grace Mugabe and this is our first time to donate to this institution,” he said.
Zanu-PF Bulawayo Youth Entrepreneurs Initiative member Cde David Manungo said they were working with some doctors to offer free medical services to senior citizens at the end of February. “We are working with doctors and now we are working on our next programme. We will be offering free services to the elderly. We are going to inform people about the venue and time but doctors will be in the city centre,” said Cde Manungo.
Mpilo Central Hospital public relations officer Mr Ozious Ndlovu said the institution was grateful for the donation.
“We are happy to receive food hampers and t-shirts from the party. The children will enjoy the fruits and drinks that they just received,” said Mr Ndlovu.
