THE Government has engaged youths in business with the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation bringing in various players such as the registrar of companies and Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) to educate youths on business practices.
The expo is geared at assisting young entrepreneurs from the country’s ten provinces to grow their business potential and tap into local and global trade markets.
It ran under the theme “Accelerating attainment of vision 20230 through business development in Youth, Sport and Arts”.
In an interview during the youth’s business expo held in Harare yesterday, acting director for business development in the Ministry of Youth, Sport Arts and Recreation Mrs Nomsa Mpofu Moyo said most youths lack the required knowledge obligatory in businesses.
“It is the Ministry’s mandate to work with the young people, young entrepreneurs who are in business. We have so many of them that are doing business they need to be assisted and guided accordingly so that their businesses propagate.
“We want to travel from province to province providing this platform to the young people so that they can be helped in growing their businesses and to make sure that they are given the information that they required, we have invited quite a number of organisations like Zimra to come and help the young people who are into business. Some young people have unregistered organisations, which will not provide them an edge when they enter the industry. They need guidance on how to do so and how to run their organisations like a legitimate corporation.
“As the Ministry we are there to make sure that our young people are not left as idols in the community. If we encourage them to venture into business they’ll improve their livelihoods and create employment for themselves and other youths in the communities. That is the agenda we are actually moving with, “She said.
Youths in various sectors and young entrepreneurs came together to showcase their talents and wares and are happy that the government recognises their efforts in economic development.
“It is an eye opener, it broadens our minds as to what one is supposed to be doing in as far as innovation is concerned and entrepreneurism. This is a great opportunity for youngsters to interact with influential people who have already made it in business. The whole idea is to create a bridging gap between the more successful business people as well as the youngsters that are upcoming, “said youth Nomore Simango, director of credible ads.
