Youths honour Chinhoyi Battle 7

Herald Reporter
At least 40 youths yesterday embarked on a 115-kilometre march to Chinhoyi meant to honour and commemorate the seven heroes that died during the Chinhoyi Battle in 1966.
The youths will plant trees at Banket Primary School, tour the Chinhoyi Provincial Heroes Acre and witness President Mugabe planting the National Tree on December 12.

In his address, Zanu-PF Secretary for Youth Affairs, Cde Absalom Sikhosana, hailed the youths and said it was important that they did not forget the country’s history and preserve the environment.

“They will embark on the mission and will go where the first shots were fired during the Chinhoyi Battle where the seven heroes took the enemy for days, few as they were. That was the start of our liberation struggle that culminated in our independence we are enjoying now.

“Youths are the future of the beautiful republic and they have to play a major role on the party’s policies. They are game changers and have to be seriously involved so that the economy is run by the indigenous people of this country,” Cde Sikhosana said.

Organiser and Custodians of the Legacy Secretary for Finance Cde Maidei Mujuru, said the march and tree planting was in tandem with raising the people’s awareness on the importance of the green environment.
