VICE President Kembo Mohadi has challenged the youth to take the lead in the economic transformation programme and reiterated Government’s commitment to revamp vocational training centres across the country to make them business incubation hubs.

As the country moves towards achieving an upper middle income economy by 2030, vocational training centres (VTCs) are expected to play a crucial role in providing practical skills and education to  disadvantaged youth, preparing them for work and fostering entrepreneurship.

The VTCs  are at the centre of developing a skilled workforce, contributing to national economic prosperity and social inclusion.

Speaking yesterday after a tour Esigodini Vocational Training Centre in Matabeleland South, Vice President Mohadi said having fully functional vocational training centres will help the country to achieve economic emancipation.

The facility, which was established in 1982 has 192 students. Matabeleland South has five VTCs namely Esigodini, Avoca, Pangani, Guyu and Lutumba.

“I came here at Esigodini Vocational Training Centre in order to see what can be done and identify existing gaps. The Ministry of Youth falls under my jurisdiction and hence I will also look into the state of affairs in all VTCs across the country so that they are developed,” said VP Mohadi.

“Our mantra as a nation says ‘Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo/Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’ and we can’t built the nation without prerequisite skills.

“These skills must be imparted to the youth as they are our future and the future leaders. We have to prepare youths to be employers and not employees. In order for them to do this they need skills. Having youths skilled will contribute towards attainment of Vision 2030,” he said.
