Youths urged to be innovative

in order for them to realise their economic dreams and develop their communities.

Speaking at an inter-party meeting hosted by Habakkuk Trust in Suburbs, Bulawayo to discuss issues affecting  youths in the Matabeleland region, Zanu-PF central committee member, Cde Godfrey Malaba, said youths should take the initiative and establish groups to make themselves better eligible for government empowerment funds.

“Youths should come together and form groups or even organisations so as to share ideas and come up with viable business projects. Many youths tend to claim that they have been denied funds yet they would not have applied for the loans.

“Others submit a sub-standard proposal which makes it difficult for banks to grant them access to the funds,” he said.

He told the youths drawn from different parts of Matabeleland to do way with the notion that Zanu-PF had turned its back against them.

He said this was evidenced by the different programmes implemented in Matabeleland and throughout the country, to ensure employment creation, educational advancement and wealth creation.

“We care for the youths. Our Defence Forces are the major employer of youths in the country and we have made sure that the youths gain employment from the institution by establishing training depots which cater for the locals in each and every province.

“The establishment of tertiary institutions like the National University of Science and Technology, Lupane State University and Joshua Mqabuko Polytechnic also goes a long way in making sure that local youths are enrolled into academic institutions.

“We believe that youths are the future of this nation. The establishment of the National Youth Service came after the realisation that as future leaders they need to know about the history of the country,” Cde Malaba said.

MDC secretary for media and publicity for Bulawayo, Mr Edwin Ndlovu, said youths had a major role to play in future leadership       hence they had to take their education seriously.

“Education determines the future of our youths. Even those who did not excel in academic studies should focus on practical subjects. The youths have to wake up and smell the coffee, no one will ring a bell in order for them to realise that they are grown-ups who have to start working tirelessly” he said.

Mr Ndlovu said it up to youths to take the matters into their hands and make something out of their lives so that the country prospered.
