Speaking at a two-day indigenisation and empowerment workshop for rural youths held in Mvuma last week, Minister Mnangagwa said the MDC-T was manipulating Zanu-PF’s brainchild, the indigenisation and empowerment programme, to direct funds towards self-help projects for their youths while sidelining Zanu-PF youths.
“Indigenisation and economic empowerment programme is the brainchild of Zanu-PF and as a result, it stands to reason that our own youths should benefit more. As it currently stands, there are reports that MDC-T youths are getting a better share of the funds than our own Zanu-PF youths. Accordingly, the workshop is part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure that our party youths access the indigenisation and empowerment funds without any encumbrances,” said Cde Mnangagwa, who is also Member of the House of Assembly for Chirumanzu -Zibagwe.
Cde Mnangagwa said Minister Biti was also giving youths from his party recommendations to access funds from various institutions for self-help projects while instructing the same financial institutions to put stringent measures for the Zanu-PF applicants.
“We have received reports that some financial institutions disbursing these funds treat proposals from Zanu-PF members with scepticism and disdain as the rate of rejection is high. MDC-T is reported to be facilitating applications from their youths through their own minister’s recommendations without even submitting application forms and proposals,” he said.
Minister Mnangagwa said he sourced $125 000 to be disbursed to youths in his constituency so that they could start their own businesses.
“After realising that the Zanu-PF youths were finding it hard to access funds owing to stringent measures put by these financial institutions, I have sourced $125 000 for immediate distribution to approved projects in party districts in Chirumanzu-Zibagwe constituency,” he said.
He urged youths to embrace the indigenisation and empowerment programme, which he said was aimed at reducing unemployment among the youths as well as empowering Zimbabweans.
