Zanu-PF legislator for Epworth Cde Zalera Makari has urged party youths to take heed of President Mugabe’s exhortation to take education seriously by completing their studies. During a recent meeting with provincial chairpersons at State House, President Mugabe urged youths to complete their education. He said the youth should complete their Ordinary Level studies so that they could be employed in the police force, army or other Government departments.
Addressing 300 party supporters who graduated with Certificates in Entrepreneurship and Life Skills training in Epworth on Wednesday, Cde Makari urged them to put to good use the skills they had acquired.
“We are already an educated nation, but we should continue furthering our education. Education will not only give them knowledge, but discipline as well. The fact that we have also given certificates to the people in Epworth after they underwent their training also means that we are also taking education seriously,” she said.
She said the programme the graduands underwent was a partnership between the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Junior Achievement Organisation, a non-governmental organisation.
“They have come to Epworth and have empowered the people of Epworth. This is very encouraging for me as a young MP of Epworth because we are actually empowering people. My main thrust is development.
“In order for us to start development we have to equip the people with necessary skills for them to run their own businesses and to run other people’s businesses as well,” Cde Makari said.
She applauded the ministry and the NGO saying this was the beginning of a process to empower people in her constituency.
She said once the people had been equipped and empowered, they would assist them with resources.
Cde Makari said there were a lot of projects party supporters were doing in Epworth, especially poultry production.
