STAKEHOLDERS from various social and economic sectors in Mashonaland West have gathered in Chinhoyi to contribute towards the formulation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS2).
This comes as ZACC has managed to have assets worth more than US$400 000 forfeited to the State, with another US$5 million worth of assets currently under interim management.
The consultative workshop is the eighth after successful consultations in Bulawayo, Midlands, Manicaland, Matabeleland North and South, Masvingo and Harare Provinces.
In a speech read on his behalf by ZACC general manager (Prevention of Corruption), Mrs Clara Nyakotyo, ZACC chairperson, Mr Michael Reza, said the seminar was important to harness broader participation of everyone in the fight against corruption.
“The launch of this consultative seminar today underscores our shared understanding that corruption is a societal issue requiring active participation, commitment, and vigilance from all citizens, institutions, and sectors,” he said.
The commission, Mr Reza said, had made significant progress in fighting corruption during the implementation of NACS 1 and lessons learnt would build into NACS2.
“Over its four-year tenure, NACS 1 achieved a remarkable 61 percent success rate in corruption investigation and prevention metrics,” he said.
“As we build on this momentum, we are proud to embark on developing NACS 2, which will further strengthen our efforts to combat corruption and promote transparency and accountability in our nation.”
In remarks made by the director in her office Mr Temproast Musemwa, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo said corruption impeded development and promoted inequality.
The consultations focus on pillars such as Public, Legal Reform, Institutional Reform, Enforcement and Priority Areas.
Reverend Jacob Mafukidze said it was everyone’s responsibility to fight corruption.
