Top South African diva Zahara is expected to return to Harare on May 9 for a show scheduled for 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale. Born Bulelwa Mkutukana, Zahara last performed at the same venue in 2013 alongside Oliver Mtukudzi.
The “Loliwe” singer will share the stage with Willis Watafi and the Goodwill Ambassador for Water Conservation Awareness and Zero Littering Campaign, Dereck Mpofu, at the show dubbed “Green Concert”.

Mpofu said all was set for the concert to raise awareness on environmental issues.

“Far from being just a musical concert this year’s edition of the ‘Green Concert’ seeks to go beyond the achievements from last year’s concert,” said Mpofu.

He said they will have several events in the run-up to the concert, including clean-ups and educational environmental campaigns.

Minister of Environment, Water and Climate Saviour Kasukuwere will be the guest of honour.

“Zahara is coming for the event and all has been set in place for the event that will be recorded live,” he said.

Zahara released her debut album “Loliwe” in 2011. It went platinum in 13 days and double platinum after just 17 days.

The video for her debut single “Loliwe” has eclipsed the 1,3 million view mark on YouTube.

At the annual South African Music Awards in May 2012, Zahara won eight awards, including “Best Female Artist” and “Album of the Year”.

Her music is classified loosely as “Afrosoul” and she sings in her native language, Xhosa, as well as in English.
