ZAKA Rural District Council in Masvingo is set to upgrade seven clinics by connecting electricity and constructing mothers’ shelters using part of the devolution funds allocation from the government.
The local authority has received $77 million out of its $200 million allocation of the devolution funds this year. In a report, Zaka RDC chief executive officer Mr David Majaura said so far the rural district council has procured a refuse truck, motorised grader and borehole rig.
“In this year’s devolution disbursement, we received $15,4 million in March, $13,5 million in June, $3,1 million in July and $45 million in July to bring the total to $77 million. The projects that we have done so far are the procurement of a refuse truck, procurement of motorised grader and a borehole rig, construction of the Gumbire primary school, Benzi clinic, Tovani clinic, Four miles, Machiva clinic and Njiva clinic,” he said.
Mr Majaura said the local authority has prioritised seven health facilities under the devolution funding namely Chinyabako clinic in ward 14, Njiva clinic in ward 27, Machiva clinic in ward 30, Chinyazvivi ward 11, Benzi clinic in ward 26, Four miles ward 8 and Tovani ward 13.
“At Tovani clinic work is in progress and they are constructing a clinic block, staff house, mother’s shelter, fencing and electrification. Four miles Clinic, there is the construction of a clinic block, staff house, mothers shelter, fencing and electrification. At Benzi clinic work is in progress with the constructing a clinic block, staff house, mother’s shelter, fencing, plumbing and electrification works are underway. At Chinyazvivi clinic they are constructing a clinic block, staff house, mother’s shelter, fencing and electrification is underway. The renovations at Machava and Njiva clinic are still in progress and the construction of mothers ‘shelter at Chinyabako clinic was completed,” he said.
A number of local authorities are ramping up projects within their areas after the Government availed varying amounts of money through the devolution facility.
