A 47-year-old high school teacher from Zaka has been arrested after police allegedly found him in possession of mbanje and crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as Mutoriro, as law enforcement agencies intensify a nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse.
Shadreck Chitsama, was arrested on Wednesday and is expected to appear in court soon.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest.
“A high school teacher, Shadreck Chitsama aged 47, has been arrested in Zaka for illegal possession of dagga and crystal meth on May 13, 2026,” he said.
The arrest comes as police continue operations targeting drug peddlers and suppliers across the country.
Earlier this week, detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics unit in Harare arrested four suspected drug dealers at a truck stop in the capital and recovered 40 kilogrammes of mbanje.
Police said the arrests followed a tip-off that the suspects were involved in drug dealing activities, prompting detectives to swiftly move in.
In a separate incident, police also arrested Howard Chiweshe, Tanaka Tasara (24), Valerie Manyura (32) and Regard Gumbo (25) at the 20-kilometre peg along the Bulawayo–Harare Road in Sharona Park.
The suspects were allegedly found in possession of mbanje and bottles of Boncleer Cough Syrup, which is commonly abused as an illicit drugs.
