Zakaria academy remains a dream

Chitungwiza Town Council a year after the council promised to do so.
The promise was part of the council’s
conferment of an ambassadorial status on the “Senior Lecturer” owing to his commitment as an artiste and resident of the town over the years.
Madzibaba says nothing has been done since the last time he met with Chitungwiza Town Council for the piece of land situated around Tilcor industrial site.
The land is around 4 000 square metres.
“No paperwork was done on the issue hence in case of change in office bearers, I don’t know how I will go about it,” said Zakaria.
Zakaria noted that the deal was between him and Godfrey Tanyanyiwa, the Chitungwiza Town Council clerk.
He said he was no longer certain whether council will fulfil the promise since there has not been any communication from them.
Council officials, however, assured the musician that they were working on something.
“I can confirm we received the request from Zakaria but we are still working on it and as soon as we finish, we’ll be in a position to notify you (the Press),” Tanyanyiwa said.
Tanyanyiwa also revealed that he was not aware that Zakaria was not in possession of the documents of the land.
In addition to the promised piece of land, the “Senior Lecturer” looked forward to enjoying perks such as a council vehicle, exemption from council rates and charges in his capacity as an ambassador for the town.
The left-handed guitarist is known in music circles for mentoring numerous musicians some of whom have become household names.
These include Alick Macheso, the late Amon Mvula, Aaron Chinamira, Cephas Karushanga and Fanuel “System” Tazvida.
At the moment, “Madzibaba” rents space at Chikwanha Shopping Centre where he teaches upcoming artistes on how to master musical instruments and also assists them to record.
