THE Zambezi Eagles conclude their participation at the Telkom Netball League today with what is expected to be a tough but exciting encounter against Golden Fireballs at Sun City Sun Park, in South Africa.

Having been part of the TNL Power Week One more than a month ago, the Ropafadzo Mutsauki-coached side had some time to reflect on their performances before returning for Power Week Two which ends today.

The national select side lost their first game against Free State Crinums 54-59 last Friday before they bounced back on Saturday when they beat North West Flames 64-62.

It will be interesting to see if they can carry the momentum from their last match to today’s game to conclude their participation at the tournament on a high.

“There isn’t much change in terms of our preparation for the game. What is important is what we tell our players going into the game.

“We know Fireballs are a very strong team. It’s the strongest team so far, they are yet to lose a game,” said Mutsauki.

“I can say it’s more of a reserve side of their national team because it has some of the best players. But that doesn’t matter, what is important is what we tell our players and how we prepare them mentally.

“We are playing a very strong team, we need to keep our possession, protect the ball and make sure it reaches the shooting circle.

“We don’t have to put ourselves under pressure because if we do, we end up making unforced errors.”

Mutsauki will be hoping his charges rise to the occasion with the likes of goal attack Nicole Muzanenamo, defenders Upenyu Muyambo and Nikkie Mandeya posting some impressive performances in their last game.

In their first meeting during Power Week One, Fireballs emerged the better side, winning the match 61-40.

“The fact that they are a good side doesn’t mean we cannot give them a good run for their money, very good competition.

“I am hoping for a very good game. A win is a bonus to me because what I am looking for against such a strong team is to try different combinations within my team and get the best out of it.

“This is the chance to try different combinations . . . This is the chance to see our best team from this select side we have.

“And I know they will have a good game because they all enjoy playing such tough games.

“They know such games, present them with the opportunity to give their best. That’s when they get the opportunity to be scouted. So, it’s a motivation on its own.

“What I can say to the players is, this the chance, let’s go and shine, let’s go and enjoy the game,” said Mutsauki.

The Zambezi Eagles’ participation is in the form of friendly games following the acceptance of the Zimbabwe Netball Association’s request by Netball South Africa to be part of the games.

The South African clubs are battling it out for silverware.
