Zambezi MIST blends lifestyle appeal with Delta’s bid to attract modern beer consumers

THERE was an easy, unhurried feel to the atmosphere at Kings Kraal on Friday night. Earthy tones set the mood, music drifted through the venue, and guests dressed to the evening’s “Modern Prep” theme mingled over drinks, conversation and entertainment.

Content creators, lifestyle influencers, trade partners and members of the media had gathered for the official launch of Zambezi MIST, Delta Beverages’ newest addition to its lager portfolio. Rather than a conventional product unveiling, the event was curated as a lifestyle experience, blending fashion, music, networking and, importantly, an opportunity for guests to sample the new lager.

Hosted by MC Arthur “Ace” Evans, the launch introduced Zambezi MIST as a 100 percent malt lager with a 4 percent alcohol content, positioned as a smoother, lighter and more refreshing beer option.

Contributing to the laid-back ambience was a live performance by Djembe Monks, whose energetic set provided the soundtrack as guests settled in and explored the new product.

Beneath the relaxed atmosphere, however, lay a deliberate strategy. Delta Beverages is launching Zambezi MIST against a backdrop of changing consumer preferences and drinking habits, with the company targeting consumers seeking a beer that is lighter, smoother and suited to a wider range of social occasions.

Opening the formal proceedings, Delta Beverages marketing manager for lagers, Kundayi Mawema, said the launch represented more than simply expanding the company’s product range.

“Tonight marks more than the unveiling of a new brand. It marks the next expression of Delta Beverages’ commitment to innovation, premium refreshment, and brands that speak to the way modern consumers choose to live, connect, unwind and celebrate life’s memorable moments,” Mawema said.

She said the product had been developed with shifting consumer behaviour in mind, particularly among younger consumers looking for brands that fit seamlessly into their social lifestyles.
Mawema said Gen Z consumers, in particular, want brands that are “shareable, expressive and socially relevant”.

“We have considered these evolving needs carefully, and we believe Zambezi MIST answers them in a distinctly authentic and Zimbabwean way,” she said.

That thinking is reflected in the beer itself. Brewed from 100 percent malt, Zambezi MIST contains 4 percent alcohol and is described by Delta as smooth, full-flavoured, balanced, refreshing and easy to drink.

Its core promise is captured in the tagline, “All Beer. All Easy.”, while the campaign message, “Do Your Thirst a Favour”, encourages consumers to try the new offering.

At Kings Kraal, however, the product largely spoke for itself.

Guests were able to sample the beer first-hand, with formal presentations eventually giving way to tasting sessions, conversation and the social rhythm of the evening.

Taking the discussion beyond the launch event, Delta Beverages marketing director Irimayi Muzorewa said the new lager had been designed to build on the strength of the Zambezi brand while creating new drinking occasions.

“For decades, Zambezi Lager has stood for quality, authenticity and a deep connection with Zimbabwean consumers. With Zambezi MIST, we are extending that trusted legacy into new lighter-refreshment occasions, recruiting new consumers and keeping the Zambezi franchise relevant in a changing beer landscape.”

In that respect, Zambezi MIST is being positioned not as a departure from the Zambezi identity, but as a natural extension of an established brand.

Friday’s launch marked only the beginning of the product’s market journey. Delta plans to support Zambezi MIST through sampling activations, market impact teams and visibility campaigns aimed at building awareness, encouraging trial and converting first-time drinkers into regular consumers.
