TWO Zambian teams have confirmed their participation in the upcoming Harare Mayor International Basketball Challenge scheduled for the City Sports Centre later this month.
A total of 16 teams, eight women and eight men, from the Zimbabwe and the Southern Africa region are set to take part in the competition.
According to one of the organisers, Sunny Mbofana, preparations for the competition are well on course.
“With just 15 days to go, the Harare Mayor’s International Basketball Challenge is gearing up to be an exciting event. We are thrilled to announce that two Zambian teams have already confirmed their participation. Dolphins, currently doing so well in Zambia’s Midlands Basketball Association, and Matero Warriors, led by the renowned Zambian international player Titus ‘Tito Cares’ Njobvu, have paid their participation fees and are ready to take in the competition,” said Mbofana.
Mbofana also gave an update on local teams set to take part.
“On the local front, Zimbabwe’s national champions, UZ Sparks (ladies), former and back to back national champions Vixens and Basket Hounds (men), have joined the tournament. Leopards Academy, a prominent Zimbabwean basketball brand, and Kudzai Choga’s Assassins have also completed their subscriptions. We anticipate that more top teams will come on board in the coming days, making this a truly unforgettable basketball extravaganza,” said Mbofana
