Zanele Moyo eyes global stage . . . Miss Tourism International gets new dates

REIGNING Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2026 Zanele Moyo says she is ready to make the most of an unexpected second chance after organisers of Miss Tourism International announced new dates and a new host country for the global pageant.

The international competition, which was initially expected to take place in China in July, will now be held in the Philippines from November 25 to December 7, with the grand finale set for December 5.

While the change disrupted earlier plans, including Moyo’s fundraising activities, the Zimbabwean beauty queen believes the extra time will allow her to prepare even better as she gets ready to represent the country on one of the world’s biggest tourism and cultural platforms.

For Moyo, the competition is about much more than competing for a title.

“This is for my family, friends, supporters and everyone who has believed in me. As we prepare for Miss Tourism International in the Philippines this November and December, I find myself reflecting on how far this journey has brought me.

“Representing Zimbabwe on an international stage is more than a crown or a title for me.

It is an opportunity to carry our culture, beauty, tourism, stories and the spirit of our people beyond our borders.”

Since winning the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe crown, Moyo has used her platform to promote the country’s tourism, culture and people. She has consistently spoken about the need to showcase Zimbabwe’s natural beauty, rich traditions and renowned hospitality to the world.

The revised pageant calendar has only strengthened her resolve.
Rather than seeing the postponement as a setback, she views it as an opportunity to refine her preparations and ensure she presents the best version of both herself and Zimbabwe when she arrives in the Philippines.

Earlier this year, the change in dates resulted in the postponement of her send-off fundraising dinner, which had been scheduled for June 26 in Bulawayo.

The event was expected to bring together corporate partners, tourism stakeholders, government officials, friends and supporters to help raise funds for Zimbabwe’s participation at the international event. Organisers are expected to announce a new date as preparations gather momentum.

Moyo said she remains grateful for the support she has received throughout her journey and hopes Zimbabweans will continue to stand with her in the months ahead.

“I am incredibly grateful to every person who has stood behind me, encouraged me, prayed for me, shared my posts, opened doors for me and reminded me to keep going even when the journey hasn’t been easy,” she said.

“As I prepare for the Philippines, I am asking you to walk this final chapter with me. Your support, prayers, connections, sponsorships, shares and encouragement can make a meaningful difference.”

With several months still remaining before the competition, Moyo is focused on building a campaign that goes beyond the traditional pageant spotlight.

She hopes to use the international platform to showcase Zimbabwe’s tourism potential, cultural diversity, traditional cuisine and world-famous attractions, while also highlighting the warmth, resilience and creativity of its people.

The Philippines will provide an opportunity for her to meet contestants from around the world and introduce them to the unique story of Zimbabwe.

For Moyo, carrying that responsibility is both an honour and a privilege.

“I want to arrive in the Philippines not just as Zanele Moyo, but as a proud daughter of Zimbabwe — ready to show the world what our beautiful country has to offer. This journey belongs to all of us,” she said.

Her participation comes at a time when Zimbabwe continues to push tourism as a key driver of economic growth, with efforts being made to attract more international visitors and increase the country’s visibility on the global stage.

As a result, Moyo’s campaign could have an impact beyond the pageant itself, helping draw attention to Zimbabwe’s tourism destinations, cultural experiences and hospitality industry.

With the countdown now underway, Moyo is entering the final phase of her preparations with renewed focus and determination.

The road to the international stage may have taken an unexpected turn, but she remains firmly focused on her goal.

When she steps onto the Miss Tourism International stage in the Philippines later this year, Moyo will not only be competing for a crown. She will be carrying the hopes of a nation and promoting Zimbabwe’s culture, tourism and people before a global audience.
