Zanu-PF audits, verifies Mat South structures

ZANU-PF Matabeleland South province has been urged to adopt a positive attitude towards party business and maintain their status as one of the most organised provinces in the country. The call was made yesterday by the party’s Secretary for Science and Technology, Professor Jonathan Moyo, who is leading a high level team to audit and verify party structures in the province, at a report back meeting that was held in Gwanda.

Prof Moyo said while the party had to start over the verification process owing to a number of problems that were faced there was a need for party members to avoid negativity as this was not helping the party.

“This is honestly an excellent province but you should now desist from negativity as this is not how a party is built, there has never been a shortage of negative stories, our assignment right now is to verify the cells.

“We must always carry the positive story that the party is strong in Matabeleland South, now we want the evidence of this strength and the best way to do this is us genuinely verifying our cells through a head count of all the people who are said to be in that cell,” said Prof Moyo.

He said the preliminary reports by the various district leaders revealed that there were a number of challenges that had led to teams not getting the required information hence the need to re-do the process to enable the province to be able to sort out their branches, districts and subsequently hold their provincial elections.

“Some of the challenges that were faced are unique to this province, some of them related to the internal dynamics that came after last year’s congress which had not been resolved because they were pending disciplinary cases which affected the leadership on the ground such as chairpersons of districts as well as Members of Parliament.

“But I still believe that this province is alive and kicking not forgetting that this province won all their seats in the 2013 elections for the first time since the year 2000. This is not an insignificant thing because it happened about two years ago but it may be seen as a long time in politics considering some of the developments that we know took place. This province was affected by the so-called Gamatox politics but it has remarkably recovered from that,” said Prof Moyo.

He said now that they were starting the verification process over again, they were now going to adopt a strategy that had been successfully implemented by Mashonaland East province and were no longer going to use district teams but instead the whole team would be going from district to district to conduct a thorough process.

There are over 1 400 cells in the seven districts of Matabeleland South Province.
