ZANU PF Bubi is taking a leading role in the fight against drug and substance with its leaders calling for concerted efforts to curb the scourge through sports and youth empowerment.
The remarks were made by Matabeleland North Zanu PF Central Committee Cde Nqabayezwe Maphosa after a sports tournament organised by Ward 8 councillor Cde Ignatious Khabo at Mahlabathini grounds on Sunday.
“President ED Mnangagwa directed all Zanu PF leaders, from ward to national level to be at the forefront of fight against drug and substance abuse so we are gathered here at Mahlabathini to declare a zero tolerance against the scourge by keeping our youths engaged in meaningful activities such as sports.
“The local councillor who organised the sports tournament Cde Khabo is a miner in Inyathi who employs a lot of young people who are contributing to the local economy and taking care of their families,” said Cde Maphosa.
Participation teams from both soccer and netball were drawn from members of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS), healthcare professionals from Inyathi District Hospital as well as youths from Ward 8.
The tourney was sponsored to the tune of US$5 000 that was split into US$3 800 in prize money and kits as well as soccer and netball balls.
Referees in charge of soccer matches and umpires for the netball games were also paid by the organisers.
