ZANU-PF Bulawayo Province has endorsed President Robert Mugabe as the party’s candidate for the 2018 general elections.

The party’s provincial secretary for administration, Cde Nacisio Makhulumo said the province had also endorsed the First Lady Cde Grace Mugabe as the leader of the women’s league.

“We confirm and affirm Cde Robert Mugabe as the sole party presidential candidate for 2018 general elections and the First Lady Cde Grace Mugabe as the leader of the women’s league,” said Makhulumo.

The  the province said it was gearing itself for the 2018 elections though they were two years away.

“Zanu-PF Bulawayo should gear itself for 2018 elections by mobilising and recruiting voters.

No fictitious and shambolic structures should be entertained,” he said.

Cde Makhulumo said the province also resolved that the quota representation system in Parliament should be extended beyond 2023 as gender parity is far from being achieved.

The quota system is provided for in the country’s constitution for 10 years from 2013, the year the constitution was passed until 2023.

Zanu-PF Bulawayo province also resolved that the constitution of the party should be aligned with the Zimbabwean constitution.

Cde Makhulumo said the province’s position was that every Zimbabwean should contribute to the efforts to turnaround the economy.

“Economic development should always come first so that every Zimbabwean has food on the table,” he said.

Cde Makhulumo said the province was pushing for the revival of industries in the city which used to be the country’s industrial hub.

He said the province also resolved that liberation war heritage sites should be preserved.

“ It should be the responsibility of local authorities to preserve the legacy of these site for the benefit of future generations,” he said.

Cde Makhulumo said the province was appealing to government to provide land for the expansion of the city.
