Zanu-PF (Byo) intensifies restructuring exercise

The Provincial Coordinating Committee held meeting at party Provincial Headquarters, Davies Hall, amid calls by Politburo members for the province to restructure as a matter of urgency to pave way for District Coordinating Committee elections.
President Mugabe has maintained that elections will be held this year and the party would want to restructure and hold DCC elections before the general elections.

The province appointed a team to verify membership and  acting Chairman Cde Killian Sibanda said the team would report back in a fortnight.

Once completed, the restructuring exercise is expected to pave way for DCC and provincial elections.

Speaking after the PCC meeting, Cde Sibanda said they were working on strategies to mobilise membership ahead of the harmonised elections.

“The meeting was meant to formulate strategies to mobilise support before the general elections. We have just started the auditing of the membership in the province ahead of the harmonised elections,” Cde Sibanda said.

The acting chairperson said reports from the provincial commissariat office showed that there was a lot of enthusiasm among members, as they prepare for elections.

“We have seen that there is a big change, as people have now realised they were misled by the opposition and are now beginning to come back,” he said.

Cde Sibanda said most Government recapitalisation programmes had failed because the MDC thrives on people’s suffering.

“It is the MDC agenda to make sure this Government fails hence they are frustrating Government programmes    meant to benefit the people. MDC knows that if for example, there is funding for Bulawayo companies, it would not have an agenda because it thrives on people’s suffering.

“There is high unemployment rate and people are suffering because they made a mistake by voting into office people without a track record. The good thing is that people have realised their mistake and are coming back to the people-driven party,” said Cde Sibanda.

He said the PCC meeting also looked at the upcoming regional workshop for Matabeleland Region to be hosted by Bulawayo province and coordinated by the party Head Office.

The workshop will be held on the 19th of this month at a venue to be announced later and about 600 delegates from Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South provinces are expected to attend.

The party Secretary for Education Dr Sikhanyiso Ndlovu urged the province to speed up the restructuring exercise.

“The province should finalise cell, branch and district elections as a matter of urgency because we cannot go for the DCC elections without putting in place lower structures. The province has shown that it is ready although there are still a few challenges like motivating members. This is why we are advising them to show the people what the party stands for,” said Dr Ndlovu.

Dr Ndlovu said the recent fight between provincial members and suspended chairman, Cde Isaac Dakamela should not be allowed to weaken the party.

“The issue of Cde Dakamela is still pending and we wait for the National Political Commissar Cde Webster Shamu              to come and resolve the issue. We are not endorsing divisions but we want people to know that the party comes first. Right now we are on top gear as Bulawayo because Zanu-PF is a people-centred party,” he said.

Politburo member Cde Eunice Sandi-Moyo said the party was looking at areas of concern that should be attended to.

“We want any shortcomings to do with the party to be addressed urgently so that we move forward,” she said.
