ZANU-PF Bulawayo province has resolved to unite, work towards mobilising support ahead of the 2018 elections and shun divisions that recently culminated in violent battles that left some members injured.
Speaking after a Provincial Executive Council meeting held at Davies Hall yesterday, Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Cde Dennis Ndlovu said mobilisation of people to rally behind the revolutionary party was top on their priority list.
“In the meeting we spoke about the need to mobilise towards elections which is the most important thing. We don’t want any fights because it is not our mandate to fight, our mandate is to mobilise people so that we win in the coming elections,” he said.
Cde Ndlovu said in the meeting, a number of ideas were suggested on the approach to be adopted in the mobilisation of people. “There were a number of ideas that were suggested but we have assigned the relevant departments to look at and polish them then they will be shared with the public after various reviews. We expect to hold our provincial coordinating committee meeting next week,” he said.
The province has in recent months been rocked by infighting culminating in violent clashes pitting rival groups.
The province performed badly in the 2013 elections failing to bag a single Parliamentary seat.
However, for the first time since 2000, the party managed to win back five seats during the 2015 by elections and added another one left vacant following the death of former MDC-T Nkulumane legislator, Thamsanqa Mahlangu.
Bulawayo province is also mobilising ahead of the hosting of the Presidential Youth Interface Rally at White City Stadium in the last week of September.
The province is targeting to raise about $50 000 for the event and wants to attract more than 50 000 people.
Zanu-PF Youth League Bulawayo provincial chairperson Cde Anna Mokgohloa this week said the province has been given the green-light to start mobilising resources ahead of the rally.
She said on Tuesday the provincial youth executive met organising members from the wing’s national leadership led by secretary for commissariat Cde Innocent Hamandishe to map the way forward.
Bulawayo, Midlands, Mashonaland Central and Harare are the only provinces yet to host the Youth Presidential Interface Rallies after the successful hosting of the event in six provinces.
The Midlands province will be the next host to the interface on September 1, with Mashonaland Central coming eighth.
