Zanu-PF calls on supporters to shun political violence

ZANU-PF has urged its supporters to shun violence and maintain peace.
Speaking at a belated Christmas party in Mbare constituency at the weekend, Zanu-PF secretary for administration Cde Mutasa urged the party supporters not to engage in any form of violence.
“They (MDC-T) are denying that they are engaging in violence and blame it on us. They think we are perpetrating violence against ourselves.
“They are the ones involved as they are being sent by the country’s detractors,” he said.
Cde Mutasa said the recent bombings in Mbare were meant to intimidate Zanu-PF supporters.
“You should be prepared because they might attack you at anytime. I am not saying you should go and revenge but just be prepared,” he said.
The party’s secretary for security, Cde Sydney Sekeramayi, warned those who were behind violence that the long arm of the law would soon catch up with them.
“I would also want to warn the country’s enemies that we will not fold our hands and watch them do what they want in our country.
“They should stop interfering with our affairs,” he said.
Cde Sekeramayi urged the party’s supporters to remain vigilant and disciplined.
“There should be peace in the country so that there is development,” he said.
The statements came in the wake of the death of a Zanu-PF member last week Andrew Zvidzai.
Zvidzai was fatally assaulted by more than 10 suspected MDC-T members in Mbare.
He was in the company of a colleague when he was attacked at around 9 pm last Tuesday.
Zanu-PF secretary for finance Cde David Karimanzira applauded the party supporters in the area for remaining calm during the attacks.
“These attacks are only targeted at our supporters but they have remained calm and disciplined.
“Do not engage in any form of violence,” he said.
The party’s secretary for transport Cde Nicholas Goche said the MDC-T did not want any elections to be held and that is why they had resorted to violence.
“Let’s only fight them through the ballot. Let’s all vote for Zanu-PF to safeguard the gains of the liberation struggle,” he said.
Cde Ignatius Chombo who is the secretary for lands said they would find places in Mbare where people could operate their businesses and sell their goods to earn a living.
He lamented the conduct of some councillors who were recently fired for allegedly conniving to change ownership of houses of the elderly or orphans without their knowledge.
Cde Chombo said there should be no water cuts countrywide.
“No one should also be kicked out of his or her house for failing to pay rates. I am not saying you should not pay but negotiate and make plans with the authorities for the payment,” he said.
Politburo member Cde Tendai Savanhu who is also the shadow legislator for Mbare said they were not going to revenge.
“We have maintained that we will remain calm. We don’t want to engage in any form of violence because we are a peaceful party,” he said.
Harare provincial chairman Cde Amos Midzi said, “We don’t want violence. We want elections to be done in a peaceful manner because we love peace.”
Cde Savanhu who hosted the party distributed goods and foodstuffs to the vulnerable people in Mbare.
“Also in attendance was Politburo member Retired General Solomon Mujuru.
