ASPIRING Zanu PF Central Committee candidates, including Politburo members, are expected to submit their Curriculum Vitaes (CVs) to their respective provinces for consideration as the ruling party gets tough on the selection of candidates, national political commissar, Cde Mike Bimha, has said.

The Central Committee is the party’s principal organ of Congress and the highest decision-making body.

According to the party constitution, the Central Committee meets for an ordinary session once every three months, or at any time in special or extraordinary sessions.

It can amend the party constitution, subject to ratification by a congress.

Speaking at a press conference in Harare yesterday, Cde Bimha said those who are aspiring to be Central Committee members should submit their Cvs to their respective provinces as required by the party constitution.

Provincial Co-ordinating Committees will be held across the country as part of the Central Committee election process this weekend.

All Politburo members who wish to be re-elected into the Central Committee are also expected to submit their CVs for consideration in their respective provinces.

“You can only be appointed as a Politburo member when you are a Central Committee member, so the current Politburo members are just like any Central Committee member, they are offering themselves for re-election,” said Cde Bimha.

The party has set guidelines for Central Committee elections to be held at a date to be advised.

Members who qualify to be considered for the Central Committee positions should have served the party for at least 15 years and above, with a minimum of five years at provincial level.

The aspiring candidates should have a clean criminal record and have not been subjected to a disciplinary hearing in the recent past.

“Those who qualify should have 15 years behind them of being members of the party and in the structures of the party. We expect that a minimum of five years should have been covered at provincial level,” said Cde Bimha.

All provinces will have Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) meetings this week.

“As you are aware the Central Committee is a very strategic organ of the party, it is a policy making body and we expect that the provinces will be responding to the guidelines.

“We need to put forward members with integrity, people who have experience in the party, who have an understanding of where the party is coming from and where we are going. I also expect high levels of maturity during the election process,” said Cde Bimha.

The party, he said, will put in place a national elections directorate which will go through and verify all the Cvs before elections.

“After that process we will now be preparing for our congress which is going to take place in October and that will complete the process of fulfilling what the constitution demands in going through all these elective stages,” he said.

The party successfully held the 7th National Youth League Conference, 7th Women’s League Conference and the inaugural War Veterans League Conference ahead of the party’s National Congress.

“We are now in a process of focusing on 2023 elections. All the wings are now in place.

“We are happy that young people are taking an interest in party activities,” said Cde Bimha.
