PREPARATIONS for the 21st Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference, expected to draw over 4 000 delegates, are nearing completion, the party’s Secretary General, Dr Obert Mpofu, said yesterday.
The conference, to be held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds in Bulawayo from October 22 to 27, presents a prime opportunity for the metropolitan province to demonstrate its capacity to host large-scale events and showcase its vibrancy.
The conference will be held under the theme: “Industrialise, modernise towards Vision 2030.”
The party has set a target of US$500 000 to feed delegates with each province expected to raise US$50 000 and five beasts.
Addressing a press conference in Harare yesterday, Dr Mpofu said preparations for the conference were at an advanced stage, with committees working tirelessly to ensure the successful hosting of the party’s annual indaba.
“We are at a very advanced stage; committees are ready. They have been meeting regularly in Bulawayo and here in Harare. As a party, we are satisfied with the preparations. The First Secretary and President of the party is fully briefed on what is going on. We are on course and ready for the occasion. There are still some small issues that we are dealing with,” said Dr Mpofu.
Foreign delegates from sister revolutionary parties such as the African National Congress of South Africa, Botswana Democratic Party, Frelimo of Mozambique, the South West Africa People’s Organisation of Namibia, Chama Cha Mapinduzi of Tanzania, MPLA of Angola and other ruling parties in the region have also been invited.
