ZANU-PF has said all systems are in place for tomorrow’s Victoria Falls local authority by-elections, expressing confidence that the ruling party will secure victory in Wards 9, 10 and 11 following an intensive campaign to mobilise voters.
The by-elections were necessitated by the recall of former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillors Mthunzi Mpofu, Nkanyiso Sibindi and Daniel Moyo.
In an interview yesterday, Zanu-PF Matabeleland North provincial secretary for administration Cde Douglas Khoza said the party has completed all its campaign preparations, with teams conducting door-to-door mobilisation and senior party leaders addressing rallies across the three wards.
“Zanu-PF has done all it can in preparation for the polls in Wards 9, 10 and 11.
“Our ward campaign teams have been going door-to-door asking and encouraging residents of the three wards to come out in their numbers and vote for Zanu-PF candidates on August 1, 2026,” said Cde Khoza.
He said the campaign received a major boost from visits by senior party leaders, including Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution and Zanu-PF provincial chairman Cde Richard Moyo, who addressed rallies in the three wards.
“The National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, also came and addressed several rallies in the three wards, further strengthening our campaign,” he said.
Cde Khoza said the ruling party was confident of winning all three seats, citing the development projects implemented by the Second Republic in Victoria Falls since the 2023 harmonised elections.
“Zanu-PF is confident enough to win the three by-elections because the people of Victoria Falls have witnessed the establishment of massive economic development projects brought by His Excellency, President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, since the 2023 harmonised elections,” he said.
“These projects have created many employment opportunities for youths in Victoria Falls and surrounding areas.”
He urged voters in Wards 9, 10 and 11 to turn out in large numbers and vote for the party’s candidates.
“Our message as a party is loud and clear to the residents of Wards 9, 10 and 11. Let us all go and vote for Zanu-PF councillors on August 1 and uphold President Dr ED Mnangagwa’s philosophy, ‘Ilizwe lakhiwa likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo/Nyika inovakwa, igonamatirwa nevene vayo’, leaving no one and no place behind as we advance the economic development thrust towards Vision 2030,” said Cde Khoza.
Zanu-PF has fielded Cde Tapiwa Kwendu Sibanda in Ward 9, Cde Thindolie Sibanda in Ward 10 and Cde George Mhlanga in Ward 11, where they will face independent candidates.
The ruling party has said victory in the three wards will strengthen efforts to improve service delivery and consolidate the development gains being recorded in the resort city.
