Cde Sisulu, a fighter for the liberation of South Africa, was widow of the late anti-apartheid icon Walter Sisulu.
She died on Thursday last week at the age of 92.
“We have received the sad news of the untimely demise of Cde (Mama) Albertina Sisulu with profound shock and compound sadness
“We will always remember Cde Albertina Sisulu as a distinguished and unwavering cadre of the revolution. She and her late revolutionary husband Cde Walter Sisulu and other late ANC stalwarts had inspiring leadership insight which proved indispensable in guiding the liberation struggle for freedom and human dignity,” Cde Khaya Moyo said.
He added that Cde Sisulu’s contribution had not benefited South Africa only but the continent at large.
“She was a mother whose humility and vision touched us all. She indeed contributed immensely in the transformation of the political struggle against apartheid and oppression into a dynamo and irreversible movement for freedom and total control.
“She led from the front all the time. Her deeds are engraved in golden stone and will live forever. She has left us a legacy of selfless service to humanity and South Africa is surely poorer by her absence,” Cde Khaya Moyo said.
Cde Sisulu was born on October 21, 1918. She was married to Cde Walter Sisulu who died on May 5, 2003.
She is survived by five children, 23 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
