Zanu-PF DCC chair donates to widows

Ngqwele Dube, Sunday News Correspondent
ZANU-PF Bulawayo District Coordinating Committee Five chairman, Cde Mnothisi Nsingo has embarked on a programme to feed widows during the Covid-19 lockdown period.

The country first went into lockdown in March last year as Government initiated efforts to curtail the spread of the coronavirus. The lockdown saw some sectors of the economy being closed leading to loss of income for some citizens. He has given out hampers to 20 widows who are based in Ward Five and Ward Six.

“We initiated this programme last month as we realised that widows were falling on hard times when they lose their husbands hence there is need to cushion them during this trying period. We are not concerned with the cause of death per se. We want to ensure families have something to eat. With the uncertain situation we are in now, death can deal difficult blows for the vulnerable,” he said.

The hamper was made up of 10kg mealie-meal, 2 litres cooking oil, 2kgs flour, 2kgs rice, 2kgs sugar and a bar of soap. Cde Nsingo, who is also the vice chairman of Zanu-PF Bulawayo Province, said they were looking at including more beneficiaries into the programme due to appeals at ward level.

The Government early this month re-introduced a hard lockdown following a spike in the number of positive coronavirus cases and deaths across the country.
