ZANU PF has clinched the majority of proportional representation seats in the Midlands Province ahead of the CCC.
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Midlands provincial elections officer, Mrs Dorcas Mpofu, announced the names of candidates who made it into the Senate, National Assembly Women’s quota, the Provincial Council and the youth quota yesterday.
“At the close of the nomination court, only Zanu PF and CCC had successfully filed names of candidates and they are the ones that will have seats under proportional representation,” she said.
Mrs Mpofu said the revolutionary party had six provincial council seats, while CCC had four.
Cdes Colletta Mutambisi, Ernest Samson, Melania Mahiya, Kandros Mugabe, Raviro Ngwenya and Phineas Makombe will represent Zanu PF in the provincial council. On the other hand, Mr Rangarirai Muzhinyi, Mr Senima Msindo, Ms Jubilee Mutyanda and Mr Denis will represent CCC.
Under the women’s quota, Cdes Variet Nhari, Perseverance Zhou, Rutendo Mpofu and Tsitsi Zhou will represent Zanu PF, while Ms Emma Muzondiwa and Ms Sekai Marashe will represent CCC.
Representing Zanu PF in the Senate will be Cde Tsitsi Muzenda, Ambassador Frederick Shava, Cde Maybe Mbowa and Engineer Daniel Mackenzie Ncube, while CCC will be represented by Mrs Sisasenkosi Ndebele and Mr Sesil Zvidzai.
Cde Kudakwashe Mnangagwa will represent the youth quota for Zanu PF.
The ruling party also won an absolute majority of 136 of the 210 seats in the National Assembly while CCC managed 73. This means the revolutionary party will constitute the bulk of the 60 senators, and the women and youth quotas, which are determined by proportional representation.
President Mnangagwa, the Zanu PF presidential candidate in the harmonised election, got 2 350 711 votes (52,6 percent) against 1 967 343 (44 percent) for Mr Nelson Chamisa of CCC.
Zanu PF Midlands Province chairperson, who is the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Larry Mavima, commended ZEC for running the election smoothly. “We were able to verify the figures ZEC had and the ones we had compiled on our own. So, I think ZEC did a wonderful, excellent job and nothing to blame in as far as tabulation and compilation for figures for the Senate, Women’s quota, Youth quota and provincial council,” he said.
The ruling party emerged victorious once again in the Midlands province, securing an impressive 23 out of 28 National Assembly seats in the harmonised elections held last Wednesday.
ZEC officially announced the results, which showcased Zanu PF’s continued dominance in the province.
The CCC secured all the urban seats in Kwekwe and Gweru.
Among the notable victories in the Midlands province was that of Minister of Local Government and Public Works Cde July Moyo who emerged as a prominent figure by securing the Redcliff seat, previously held by the CCC candidate Mr Dzikamai Mukapiko.
Cde Moyo had 12 167 votes and Mr Mukapiko had 10 352 votes.
