ZANU-PF secretary for administration Cde Ignatius Chombo and secretary for information and publicity Cde Simon Khaya Moyo left for South Africa yesterday to attend the African National Congress National General Council meeting in Johannesburg.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the meeting, which started in Midrand yesterday and ends on Sunday, serves as a policy conference. “The invitation was extended to Zanu-PF by the ANC leadership. It’s known that the ANC of South Africa and Zanu-PF enjoy special relations dating back to the days of the liberation struggle.
“The two parties are working together closely to promote Economic Transformation of their two countries,” he said. The ANC prefers to describe the NGC as the party’s big political school, where thousands of delegates will converge to critically fine-tune policy.
Out of the 3, 000 delegates, 2,500 will be ANC branch members from around the country. Topping the agenda would be strategies on how to boost the country’s stuttering economy and bring an end to the energy crisis.
As is tradition, according to the party’s website, the ANC has also invited fraternal organisations, notably the Former Liberation Movements – Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (Tanzania), The Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo) and South West Africa People’s Organisation, (Swapo) from Namibia who have confirmed their attendance.
“We also expect in attendance representatives of the BRICS embassies – Brazil, Russia, India and China. Cadres deployed in the government and members of the business community make up the balance of delegates to the NGC,” reads the statement.
