Newly-elected zanu-pf legislator for Epworth Cde Zalera Makari has applauded party supporters for voting overwhelmingly for her in Saturday’s by-election.
Cde Makari won the National Assembly seat with 10 509 votes, beating independent candidate, Daniel Foyer and Transform Zimbabwe’s Tsikirai Muchena.
In an interview on Sunday on the sidelines of her victory celebration, Cde Makari said she was going to change the face of Epworth through developmental projects in line with zanu-pf’s economic development blueprint, Zim-Asset.
She said they had managed to drill six boreholes as well as open a pharmacy and laboratory in Epworth.
“We have also graded two major roads and set up a community centre for youths. We want to ensure that people get title deeds to their properties,” said Cde Makari.
“It was a by-election, but people came out in large numbers. We want to make sure that the numbers increase during the next elections. We are now working for the next elections. The people in Epworth support zanu-pf and this was shown during the by-elections.
“We have several projects for the people in the area and I will continue working with them.
“We are also going to ensure that we build a wall around Epworth Quarry Dam to stop people from jumping into it to commit suicide and to keep away criminals,” she said.
zanu-pf acting secretary for Information and Publicity for Harare province Cde Abicia Ushewokunze said the elections in Epworth were peaceful.
“The elections went on very well and peacefully. Turnout was impressive for a by-election,” said Cde Ushewokunze.
“It just shows how much faith people have in the ruling party and its ideals and ideology,” he added.
